It's a physical act.

to convey it through the hands and almost through the mouth, but you don't speak.

So the sort of impulse of speaking happens, but doesn't happen and comes out somehow through your hands.

And then you also read it.

And as you read it, you learn what you're saying and you also know what you're going to say next.

And that's, I mean, I'm just describing what it feels like to write.

Everybody does that.

But sometimes in that process,

moment you come to a point where you know what you're going to do next and it will surprise what you've started and change it and then it becomes interesting but still like you were saying it could become that's excellent actually like it could become something or not and you'll

I suppose a piece of work that you have to do is to not get carried away and like sort of be careful with it and treat it the right way.

Maybe it's more of an, maybe you're not thinking about it in that way.

Like, I don't know, I'm not thinking like, oh, I must...

I mustn't sort of shine too much light on this or that's kind of, that feels a little bit too technical or like there's sort of another exterior voice kind of looking down at what you're doing, kind of assessing whether you're doing it in that way.

It feels more like an instinct to me.

I mean, in some ways, I feel as if what you're saying about the subject being what you focus on, that kind of is it.

It sort of consumes you.

And also, maybe we're talking a little bit about the moments when you're actually doing physical writing, but quite a lot of the time, you're just not... I mean, most of the time, really, if you're working on a book...

most of that time you're not actually anywhere near a thing where you can do any writing on.

And so there's a kind of thought process that's going on and kind of the thing that you've left behind, saved or written in a book or whatever kind of starts to have a different...
