And if you can hear those things and you can do something about those things, then you can build the trust that you need to ask someone to take a risk on a candidate.
I think there's a lot of talk about attention and attention is this very important currency.
It's absolutely a powerful force.
But I think trust is actually the thing that is most precious and rare at this moment.
People are so fed up.
They don't believe anyone.
A lot of the people who either don't vote or swing between the two parties, they think both parties are messed up and corrupt and unresponsive.
And the only way to change that is to actually earn trust from people by hearing them out, saying how you're going to do something and then actually doing it and then going back to them to talk about how it went.
That's something that is built over years and it's something that each individual candidate cannot build by themselves.
That to me is what local and state parties and any viewer of your show or reader of this book, they can get involved in doing and the effects of doing that can echo for years to come.
That is exactly it.
So this is the paradox of this moment.
The vast majority of elections, you already know the outcome of.
The vast majority of congressional districts, of states for statewide elections and the electoral college, they're totally safe.
That's a problem in and of itself, which I want to speak to.
But then the elections that wind up tipping the balance, that tip the House majority, Republicans have a House majority because of 7,309 votes across three congressional districts.
That's a number of votes that the people listening to this right now could flip in the next election if they focus on the right places.
The same thing is true in state legislative chamber after state legislative chamber.
In the presidential race, it was 0.1% of all the votes cast across Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania that determined the outcome.
So there are these tiny margins.
