And that brought me to work on the hero's journey very profoundly.

I felt like I was called to study it.

And specifically with the intervention piece is not just saying, you know, it's nice to have meaning and some people have more or less, but actually using my research to help people find more meaning in their lives or maybe they're at work.

And that also shows up in my teaching as well.

I teach in a business school.

I teach organizational behavior, so topics like leadership and teamwork and really important things.

But I also love to infuse in my classwork this idea of meaning in life is really important.

Finding meaning in your work is something that is not just a nice to have, but is really important.

And I like being there for students at a really formative time in their lives where they're facing a lot of pressures to get that investment banking job or to get that consulting gig.

And I like being there to say, yes, those are important.

Yes, those are great goals.

But also you should think about broader sense of impact in terms of your lives.

So both in terms of my research and my teaching, I sort of transformed into someone who might have been able to help me along when I was in those same shoes a few years ago.

Yes.

So this is one of those moments where looking back on it, it felt like fate or it felt like, you know, the natural end of the hero's journey that I now realize.

And so what happened was I actually had not one but two students in my first semester whose parents or who one of their parents passed away.

So one, their parent had just passed away right before the semester and one, one of their parents had passed away during the semester.

And as you can imagine, based on my past experiences, I felt a profound sense of duty to try to help these students however I could.

And while I wasn't able to fix what had happened to them as I had been through that same experience, I was able to pull on both my research and my own life experiences

to try to point them towards the ideas of meaning the ideas of well-being the ideas of how do they march forward that i think i would have really appreciated at the time and in fact in my last class day i decided to have my students do the hero's journey intervention and it was a pretty emotional experience for for me i actually found myself tearing up as i was teaching these students
