So these don't have to be especially clever.

The more ridiculous and vivid the image, the better it sticks.

So that's the first system.

The second is using spaced repetition, which is a fancy way of saying that you get shown a word right before you're about to forget it.

For me personally, I'm a big fan of the app Anki A NKI.

But to be totally honest, a lot of people don't like it because it's got an interface that only a mother could love.

It's very much not a pretty app, and I totally understand why a lot of people bounce straight away from it.

But it does one thing that my brain can't, which is to keep handing me a word at exactly the right interval that I would need.

before it slips away.

And you'll find this kind of space repetition in a lot of other apps, or if you use AI a lot yourself, you can have it build a space repetition into your own language practice.

So I'd really like you to keep these kind of things in mind.

Because the combination means that if you're convinced your memory is too rubbish to learn a language, then you might be able to try something that next time you hit a word that just isn't sticking.

open up an AI chat bot and free is fine since I found that the old free models from two or so years ago were more than up to the task and nowadays they're even better.

Then just have a look at whatever system you're learning with as well as that.

If you're using a language learning app or some kind of an online tool.

And ask whether it has built-in spaced repetition for the vocabulary.

If so, use it.

And if not, you might need to use some kind of a third-party system.

And like I said, I like Anki as dull as the interface is, but there's plenty of other options.

So a bad memory is not a disqualification from speaking another language.
