And then several years later, that developed into allowing me to have the flexibility to build Fluent in three months and build a whole business out of that and a career. matched

And that all of that happened for a story that I never would have imagined during the time I was aiming for specifically conference interpreting. matched

So in the end, things actually turned out better for me because of all of this work. matched

I've been able to do from the location independence and ultimately building my language learning company around it. matched

I've been able to reach many millions of people over the last two decades with what I've published online and in print. matched

And I made a real difference in a lot of people's lives. matched

And it's something I'm really proud of and very grateful for. matched

It does not mean that the collapse to my plan was secretly good or matched

I'm not trying to say some spiritual woo-woo method of saying everything happens for a reason. matched

Because I know the the next chapter worked because I happened to live it, but at the time I had lost a goal that mattered very deeply to me, and I couldn't really see what was going to replace it. matched

So just in your case, if any of your grand plans have happened to fall through, you may not be matched

Ready to feel optimistic and you don't have to force it. matched

Give yourself time to feel disappointed. matched

That's totally fine. matched

But when you're ready, separate the destination from everything you built on the way to get there. matched

And look at what you can do now that you couldn't do before and what possibilities might still exist because you put all that work in. matched

That loss can be real without erasing your progress and seeing what you could potentially do with your life. matched
