We got the benefits of that, and we did.
through the late 2010s into the early 2020s when, at some points, US interest rates were virtually nil.
Well, right now, the US 10-year bond yield is at 4.5%.
And so that's sort of pushed up those longer-term interest rates.
So we should think about that.
We should care about it if we're taking out fixed mortgages.
If we're on a floating rate, well, then, yes, the OCR does directly connect.
You're right, though, that the banks –
are also independent themselves and they have their own influences.
Well, they're always quite good.
Actually, the Reserve Bank has said that our banks are amongst the top two or three most profitable in the world.
And when you take into account how
variable those profits are, how volatile they are, actually, we have the most profitable banks in the world.
Now, there's two sides to that.
A, that means as a consumer, we're paying.
But also from a broader economic point of view, the Reserve Bank would say, hey, very profitable banks is good.
They're not going to fall over.
That's stable for the economy.
Those banks have lots of influences.
They've got shareholders in Australia.
