So a lot of the time you're competing with yourself to one up yourself from a previous book and the expectations tied to that as well.

I believe in changing genres and pushing yourself and I'm sure it found its readers.

You know, even though it it would be a different readership per se.

Something that we do a lot of on the podcast, and we don't mean to do it, because I don't like talking about the rules of writing.

But we get people submitting the opening pages to us and we critique them so that they can polish them up to find their dream agent.

And we'll often say, Don't begin this way.

Don't begin this way because we'll see the mistakes that emerging writers make.

And it was so interesting because we taped earlier this morning and one of the agents said talent can break any rule, any so-called writing rule.

And it's interesting to me because last week I interviewed Jodie Picot and we were talking about her latest book, which does not have an inciting incident in the traditional sense.
