it's not a horrible team that's like that's another playoff aspiration team and then detroit there as you mentioned like that's another hey we have to start yeah knocking the door down forget even seeing what the dance looks like like they haven't even got into the playoffs in a while no and you know you could say well uh well uh a team like san jose they still need some veteran players but they still have to have tyler toffoli they sign alex winberg they traded for keifer sherwood they might they might have
So the benefit of this, too, is A, you might get something.
nominal even and part of it too is hey it's like oh it's only a seventh round pick you get part of it is also hey can you retain down the road and get something out of that as well so there's the dual comp if you don't get the total value immediately can you retain is he on pace for a 15 goal season is there a team that maybe says hey we just want some depth we'll give you a fifth as well down the road so so there's that component to it as well
But the fact that you're out after a year is the benefit to me.
I know we'll talk about free agency guys, but my worry there is you're kind of loading up.
Is there going to be a scenario where it's going to be a three-year deal for these veteran types?
And okay, what does that look like?
And is that...
taking up a spot on the roster.
I like the fact that it's a one-year deal.
It's $6.5 million on the cap.
And you can constantly, like, I think you can find the placeholder veteran guy often enough.
Elsewhere in the market.
I think Brendan Gallagher situations across the league will present themselves if you want to be the haven, as we talked about.
If you're in this rebuild, weaponizing cap space, it's not something we've seen with enough regularity here, if ever.
But,
These situations do crop up enough to say, hey, we'll be the team this year to do it.
This is not a long-term commitment.
It's just one year.
It fits.
