What that deal would see is that DHS funding bill be split away from the package of five other appropriations bills.
Those five other bills have broad bipartisan support.
They could pass those separately.
What would then happen with the DHS bill is they would use what's called a two-week continuing resolution to fund DHS for two weeks while they negotiate what they want to do with this ICE money.
The problem with that is by changing anything about this package of bills, it would then have to be bounced back to the House.
Well, the House isn't here this week.
There were a couple of protesters standing in front of the main gate to this federal property.
And then there was a skirmish line of federal agents that started walking slowly.
And then kind of at the snap of their fingers, they just bull rushed two of those protesters who the feds will say were on federal property.
They tried getting away.
They took two of them down to the ground.
We saw one person get maced in the face over in the snow.
Not sure exactly what led up to that interaction.
Other than that, it hasn't been as active as it was.
We haven't seen any tear gas.
It has been snowing all day.
The temperatures have dropped in a single digit.
Still, you got folks out here protesting.
The cold weather is not stopping now.
Gotaways have also completely fallen off a cliff since Trump took office. CBP sources tell us over the last 21 days, there have been an average of just 77 gotaways per day nationwide. That's down 95.8% from the Biden highs of fiscal year 2023. That's when there were a staggering 1,830 gotaways on average every single day. I want you to internalize that.
