I do mitigate the use of it by calling men baby doll as well as women baby doll.
I did actually say to a female friend of mine once, baby doll, in a postmodern ironic way, and she said, I can't believe you've called me baby doll on International Women's Day.
I, of course, was unaware that it was International Women's Day.
