So we want to be able to survive, and we need to calculate our survival number.

We've got to pay rent, we've got to feed ourselves, we've got to do these things, right?

And we're saving for...

some sort of calamity where I'm unemployed for a couple weeks.

But a lot of times, we're saving for, I want to go on this trip.

I want to buy this house.

I like this car.

I want to get the girl the ring.

You know what I mean?

I want to take my parents on a trip or dinner, whatever it is.

I like to attach the money to activities.

So they're not just working for some abstract Chuck E. Cheese token that we never cash in.

And so it's like, okay, great idea.

So I first like to think about, okay, when we're saving for retirement, we're talking about things, it's like, what's your survival number?

Because we're working for survival and then everything else is choices.

Everything else is about the grand adventure.

And it's like, okay, what adventures go where in our life?
