I don't know, but it should be.
It should be the case that politicians look at this polling data, look at the expressed will of the American people and say, okay, we need to do this.
Let's figure out how.
That's certainly my hope.
So I don't think the problem is in any sense, like, does the American people want this?
They clearly do.
The question is, can our political leaders meet the moment?
I mean, this is a very technical set of issues, and I'm not expert in them.
But what I would say to you about it is that when I talk to people who are expert in these issues, they emphasize that this is something that is an inherent feature of the technology.
I don't want to analogize AI too closely to the human mind.
I think those analogies are really problematic.
But it does seem to me that there's a useful analogy in the fact that we try to regulate human behavior without pretending or presupposing that we'll ever fully understand how humans make choices.
And that I think one wants to think about regulating AI in the same way, that we need to be able to control outcomes even if we don't have full insight into processes, into how things reach a given point.
We should obviously want as much of that as we can.
But, you know, from my conversations with experts, I think we need to be grappling with the possibility that we won't have as much of it as we want.
I mean, I think that leads in some way
So I want to be a little pedantic first.
Constitution is an expression of the will of a polity.
Anthropic's use of that word is a form of gaslighting.
It's trying to claim the mantle of democratic legitimacy for a corporate document that it created.
