In the hope of getting an identification of the victim, his fingerprint classification and description was sent to George Brereton up at CII Sacramento, FBI headquarters in Washington, and to the police departments in the seven western states.

A close check of his clothing revealed that Tom Rustad's suits were tailor-made and had been made in Reno.

We contacted the authorities there and asked them to check on the tailor shops in the area.

We also asked that they check out the woman Rustad had written to.

While we waited for the answer, we contacted the cab company that had serviced the area around the motel.

We asked them to go over their way bills and report all trips from the motel and all trips to the address.

Investigation.

We got the address of the woman the driver knew as Marsha.
