Wow.
It stayed that low for the whole season, eh?
2-2-4 ERA, which was more than a full run better than his fielding independent pitching.
But in any event, the point is... Almost 200 innings, too.
Yeah, 196 and two-thirds innings.
People, we quickly forget what an absolute monster Manoa was for a brief time for this franchise.
Third inside young voting and received some MVP votes.
Yeah, he was incredible.
And I think Dylan Cease absolutely has himself a chance right now to win the American League Cy Young and to etch his name into the pantheon of Blue Jays pitching greats alongside Clemens, alongside Pat Henkin, alongside Roy Halladay, because this is just next level pitching that we've seen from him so far.
It's not an ideal situation, to say the least.
Yes, they got three quality innings out of Spencer Miles against the Angels on Sunday, but they only made it through that game without ravaging the bullpen because Eric Lauer threw five innings of bulk relief.
Lauer is gone.
They don't have a long man on the roster anymore.
Yaron Rodriguez is not a long man.
He's maxed out at 38 pitches in a game this year, which means that even if you get a best-case scenario start out of Spencer Miles on Saturday, you're still going to need, what, five relievers to throw in that game?
I don't think you can have that baked into the schedule when you're playing 17 contests in 17 games.
So for my part, I would like to see them call up a traditional starter from AAA.
And at this point, I think my choice would be Chad Dallas.
I know he's not on the 40-man roster, and there are guys down in Buffalo with MLB experience like Austin Voth and Josh Fleming.
But Dallas was among the guys to get name-checked.
