But it's not true.
There are many, many unsolved problems in the world, many great ideas hiding in plain sight that were actually solvable, that could have been multi-billion or multi-trillion dollar businesses a while ago, but nobody's building them.
And not for any reason other than nobody went and did it.
The technology for supersonic flight existed actually a long time before Boom was founded.
Technologically, the company could have been created 10 years earlier.
but nobody started it.
The law of large numbers you might think applies to startups just doesn't.
The world is a smaller place than we're told.
So I deeply believe that you should pick a problem that you wanna go solve in the world and don't worry too much about the answer to why now.
The answer to why now can be because I started now.
Okay, is it possible for America to actually compete with China on manufacturing at scale?
Yes, absolutely.
But we have to do it smartly.
It won't work to try to repatriate
the manufacturing that left the US.
You don't beat China at its own game.
What you do is invent the future, invent the next wave of manufacturing and build that here.
And I can give you some examples of that.
So one of the ways that China hollowed out American manufacturing was by kind of hoovering up the tool and dye industry.
which used to be big in the US.
