NBC Los Angeles reports that Zampella was killed in a car crash on Sunday, December 21st on Southern California's Angelus Crest Highway.

Zampella founded Respawn Entertainment in 2010 with Jason West, which has since launched games like Titanfall and Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, and the Star Wars Jedi series.

Before that, Zampella was a lead at Call of Duty Modern Warfare maker Infinity War.

In 2021, Zampella became the head of Battlefield 4 EA amidst wider franchise changes that included the creation of Battlefield Universe.

Zampella, alongside Battlefield Studios, helped make Battlefield 6 an inarguable success for the series.

A tweet from Respawn reads, "...we're heartbroken by the passing of our founder and dear friend Vince Zampella."

Vince was a titan and legend of this industry, a visionary leader, and a force who shaped teams and games like Call of Duty, Titanfall, Apex Legends, Star Wars, and Battlefield for our community in ways that will be felt for generations.

His impact reached far beyond any one game or studio.

We'll remember Vince for how he showed up every day, trusting his teams, encouraging bold ideas, and believing in Respawn and Battlefield.

Most importantly, he championed what he believed was right for the people behind those studios and our players because it mattered.

We'll miss him greatly.

yeah value your life right life is short and i think that's a this is another reminder of that you know him being 55 and yeah like you put it him going out in this way super heartbreaking especially when you uh when we see the news pop on december 21st right i think it was a shock to us all especially like seeing it pop up on the link on the khd slack i think i originally actually saw it when i just opened up reddit and i was like no way that's true and i go to twitter i'm like no way that's true

And then I see pop up in the cage.
