I mean, the fact that you can make money pulling one parts per million out of anything is remarkable.
So the scale at which the mining industry is efficient boggles the mind.
Again, come to iron ore.
Iron ore is almost all iron.
I can move a ton of iron ore from the the Amazon rainforest safely to China for 40 bucks a ton.
Right.
I can't get someone to deliver most dinners in Midtown for $40.
And so the efficiencies of the mining industry boggle the mines.
Now, having said that.
It appears as if geology is fighting back, right?
It is getting harder and harder.
The average copper mine gets deeper and deeper every year.
We're moving to higher elevations.
We're moving just more difficult regions.
So geology is always in this fight against technology and innovation.
The fact that most every commodity you buy from the earth, mined metals, are like 10 bucks a kilogram is a testament to how well the industry's done, but it should grind.
Costs of metals should grow faster than inflation.
Through most of this year there'd been this funny split between the precious metals, platinum, gold, and silver, where the more useful the metal, the less it went up.
And gold is the least useful of the metals, right?
There's very little real u utility for industry.
