But what about a real-life clinical situation?
And you probably saw, talked a little bit about it in Grand Rounds, the study that just came out from Google using their AI tool.
And what they did was a whole bunch of scenarios where actor patients basically chatted with a chatbot.
And it was, you know, I'm having shortness of breath and it asked a bunch of questions.
And yes, I have a fever or my cough is productive or all that sort of stuff.
And the actors were blinded to whether this was a primary care doctor or a chat bot answering them.
They had no idea.
The results were that the chatbots got the diagnoses right and had an escalation strategy that was better uh than than the the doctors, as judged by blinded specialists reading the transcripts.
So, okay, that's scary, but you know, but but pretty impressive.
Uh scary if we like our jobs.
Um, and then you then the humans say, Oh, but what about empathy?
So, and then uh the blinded observers, that these actor patients were asked to judge the empathy of the responses.
And this wasn't like the study that came out six months earlier where it looked at Reddit back and forth, where the chatbot just had infinite amount of time.
So, of course it
told you all sorts of wonderful stuff, made you feel better.
This was about in the same volume of material, but they rated the empathy of the responses better than that of the human actor.
So
I think we're getting closer to real live clinical situations, not just answering a test.
It's no longer kind of a jeopardy game, but it's it's real live back and forth between patients and something.
And I don't think there's any question these things can give answers that are accurate and or or advice to you if you're, you know, or or if I ask you advice as a specialist, uh helping me as a generalist take care of an older per person.
