i think this is an asset that's a far more diminished asset than the actual attention it's getting but it's getting the attention because it's the heat because it's butler and we don't really have anything else other than veal which we'll get to yeah i mean listen we i think there's a lot of different ways to to go at this i think um i think you could i could i think you could say listen miami missed the the window to trade them they knew there was going to be smoke right as soon as they didn't sign him this to this extension that he was that he's still eligible to for
You knew eventually during the season here there was going to be some type of blow-up, right? You just didn't know when it was going to be, and then it happens sometime in late December. So you could say, well, they should have just traded him this summer, right? That would have probably made the most sense from a clean standpoint, and you're not dealing with this. They elected not to do it.
From a common-sense perspective, and I know we're probably throwing common sense out the window a little bit here, the best thing for him to do is when the extension is lifted for him to report and play a Friday night against Denver and Saturday, a Sunday against San Antonio and play like a, an all NBA type level player. Like that's the best approach for Jimmy Butler.
And that's the best approach for Miami. And then continually see if there's a deal by February 6th. And if not, opt into your contract and let's see if we can, well, let's find you a home during the summer, right? Like that is like the logical thing to happen here. And I've been told multiple times, certainly by people close to his camp, like that was gonna happen. And then the wheels...
fell off the track. The train went off the track a couple weeks ago with those two games and everything, and he gets suspended here. I think that's going to be the unknown what happens with that Denver game. He's going to be standing in a corner again. He's going to be passive-aggressive. There's a lot to go into that here.
I think at the end of the day for Miami, you know this, they're not trading him for Bradley. They're not going to go out there and appease Jimmy Butler because Phoenix is the number one choice for Jimmy Butler. but they're not taking back Bradley Beal and $110 million. And what other deals are out there to make?
And I think, I know things have been floating around that Jimmy Butler wouldn't want to play in Milwaukee or Memphis and teams like that. If I'm a team like Memphis and I'm trading some expirings and maybe Marcus Smart or even Brandon Clark and I get to give a first round pick, just hypothetical, I might take a swing for that for the next four months with Jimmy Butler on my team.
Because here's the reality. Who's going to sign him in free agency? That's the $100 million question. I don't see anyone lined up to sign him with cap space. I don't see Brooklyn going out there and signing him, although Brooklyn will have $60 million in cap space and pay him $40 million. The hard part comes with, though, Ryan, is, okay, let's say this plays out and he opts in.
We're in a different... This is a different CBA than it was back in 2019 when Jimmy was signed and traded from Philly to Miami. That was a complicated trade, and that was under the prior CBA here. So there's a lot of different layers, but at the end of the day, What happens is, what eventually happens is controlled by Jimmy Butler.
Because the reality is Miami, and I'm just talking for myself, if I was in their front office, he acts out again, I'm suspending him again, right? Like I'm just going to continue the cycle here. And that's not good for anybody at all.

jimmy butler can come out and say well they're not using me right and i'm not part of the offense well i watched the game a month ago in detroit where he went he put up 31 and he was part of the offense so i think that's a little bit of a cop out here and i do think it's i think this is primarily financially driven here um
