you go and make the play but a lot of times the play does have to come to you right like a lot of times doing the good doing a good job means you don't get to be near the football because they're avoiding you right there's you know there's one play against purdue which is like this is an amazing play but it'll never show up no one will ever think about it except for in the film breakdown that i'm going to put out on tuesday where he's playing that underneath middle of the field and
they have a crosser, right?
The quarterback's trying to get the crosser.
He takes it underneath, moves the quarterback off of the crosser to a slant that's coming through the same window.
He gets off of that crosser now and then bails into that slant, takes it away, and then Sonny Stiles is...
loses track on the QB spy and the quarterback ends up getting a four-yard rush.
He would have created a sack if Sonny Stiles did a better job of just being a QB spy on that play.
It's little things like that.
You know, the Texas in the playoff game last year where he just baits Quinn Ears into the throw, bangs down, gets the interception.
Had another one play like that against Purdue.
Like,
People talk about his size.
One we've talked about, it's 6'206", or 5'11 1โ2", or whatever it is.
The combine has him measured at 6'.
And it's like, well, you look at all the all-pro safeties, the best safeties we talk about, they're either the same size or smaller than what Caleb Downs is.
Athletic-wise...
I'm sure he would not run the best 40 time in the world, but we're going to talk about Dylan Theanaman, who has the best combine testing in the world.
Caleb Downs is a better athlete than Dylan Theanaman, despite the fact that Dylan Theanaman could run in a straight line faster.
His change of direction, he's just an effortless mover, and it just looks so natural.
It doesn't even look like bursts because of how quick he is.
