And then the profits of those companies start to contract. podcast-host
And now we're finally getting to meet from my perspective, the employment piece of that cycle. podcast-host
It's it podcast-host
It's a it's a weird setup and a bit of like a a a one that sucks for for that sector given the potential for in this inflationary environment and higher for longer rate setup that we're staring at. podcast-host
But w and then whenever you hear people say about like or whenever you hear we we talk about the inflation thing, everybody always says like stagflation, right? podcast-host
They're like, oh but I I don't know if that like to me, I don't see a world in which we end up with you know, t a stag a stagflationary regime. podcast-host
I mean, you've really only ever seen it once, but I think they talk about it for like people talk about it as if podcast-host
it it's like every time inflation is high and and the economy isn't growing uh where it should be, you know, it's it's that state of being. podcast-host
But I don't I don't necessarily think that that's a uh within the range of potential outcomes like because the the idea that consumers can weather these cost increases and that inflation would be sticky, which is how the bond market is podcast-host
Is is reacting right now. podcast-host
Like that's what the bond market is saying. podcast-host
And I think you have to almost like compartmentalize what what part of it is bond markets trying to telegraph what the central banks are doing or like what they actually think the future rate environment will be. podcast-host
And what part of it is the bond market saying we just anticipate governments are going to continue spending like drunken sailors and we're trying to price in some of that risk. podcast-host
Because I mean that could be a a big component too. podcast-host
All all of this to say, I think it's it's hard to imagine a scenario where podcast-host
We get inflation and it doesn't podcast-host
cause the consumer to like to a big contraction in on the consumption side of things. podcast-host
I d I don't know. podcast-host
Like I don't know w what what out what version of the outcome people are already or are trying to describe when they they f they say that that they think that that's possible. podcast-host
And I would love to know because I I I just can't really grab like wrap my head around the argument that like consumers are already tapped in in in many of the cases you're podcast-host
