It's personal to me for a different reason.
It's different when the gun's been in your fucking face.
It's different when you had to duck the bullets.
It's different when you've been sat down on the curb in handcuffs just because you were breathing.
It's different when a few years ago, a young man that went to my high school was murdered and his mother told me that he was looking for me before that football game.
It's different.
So yes, it's personal to me.
It's very fucking personal to me, but I don't give a shit about the credit.
As my grandmother would say, let the work that I've done speak for me, right?
That's the reality.
But I know that this isn't just, this is being a part of something that is greater than yourself is the best thing that any human being can do.
do.
And for me, this is about my city.
This is about the next me who is in one of our schools or playing on the basketball court or football field somewhere that they don't have to, they live with less of what I live with as possible.
That's what this is about for me.
But do I, do I, did I think they're like, oh, I would reach my goal and then
America would just be like, oh, yep, look, he did it.
No, I knew that.
That's not the history of this country, especially when it comes to people that look like me.
And especially when it comes to people who look like me, who don't code switch, who don't.
