Because what does the second level of players look like?
What does the organizational depth look like?
That is the worry.
I will pick Cleveland until I'm wrong because they just have done it time and time again.
But the White Sox, more importantly than anything else, are just a joy to watch right now.
They are playing inspired, energetic, invigorating baseball for a fan base that has waited and wanted –
Like, waited and waited through muck, through pointlessness, through the worst season ever a handful of years ago.
And so for them to have 38K out at the yard on a Sunday...
That's good stuff.
And that's what's so important and interesting and compelling about Scooble's situation is that never have so many people cared about how a starter looked coming back from injury.
It's not just the Tigers and their fans.
It's the rest of the AL Central.
But then it's every fan of any contender that thinks they might have a 0.05% chance of acquiring Scooble at the deadline.
Scooble, free agent this year, an extension with the Tigers before then is not going to happen.
He's going to get paid a preposterous amount no matter what the economic situation is in baseball with the lockout.
And because of that, the Tigers, who are now, I believe, 13 games under .500, are going to be compelled to trade him at the deadline.
If you had to ask me right now,
I think he gets dealt.
Now, that could change.
The Tigers could crawl their way back into it, claw back up the standings.
