Both John and I are lawyers.
There are a few things.
So Raj Shetty, researcher a few years ago, put forward a really fascinating study that looked post-World War II.
Patent holders, U.S.
patent holders, were equally distributed among race, class, income levels, and across the United States.
You fast forward to the early 2000s, that was mainly concentrated in the most higher echelon of class, predominantly white and mostly on the coasts.
What changed?
Did people all of a sudden stop innovating?
Or did we start to shut off access points for people all across the U.S.
to feel that they had the power to innovate?
And so part of this moment, and I think it's a reckoning for us, and I talk often about this kind of veneer of expertise, because in many ways, and John alluded to it, in each of our pockets right now is a smartphone.
that has more power and dynamism and access and information than our ancestors could have dreamed.
And so at some level, we have more access and information, and yet fewer people feel like they can tap that and use that.
So part of it is a narrative that we have to change, that you have power, that you have access, that you have possibility.
And then we set up the systems and the structures in place to actually make that real.
Run a business and not thinking about podcasting?
Think again.
More Americans listen to podcasts than ad-supported streaming music from Spotify and Pandora.
And as the number one podcaster, iHeart's twice as large as the next two combined.
So whatever your customers listen to, they'll hear your message.
