You have to be nominated before you can be elected.
In other words, if you're not in the conversation, very seldom does someone come out of the blue and win a major award.
And I think that's wrong.
I think if you have the best year, you should win the award, whether it be the Calder or the Norris or whatever the trophy might be.
But I don't see that.
I see you have to be in the discussion first.
I think it's great that Evan Bouchard will be in the conversation seriously for the first time.
But I think it's hard to win when you're in the conversation for the first time.
I think there's a difference between getting a team ready to play and a team that's always ready to play because of the style and attitude they have.
And I think that the Florida Panthers have an attitude that enables them to get going
even on short notice, and they're very difficult to play against.
That's a different issue than getting a team ready to play, in my view.
I didn't see the start of the game, but I think that's right.
I think fans are entitled to expect some pushback.
The game is going back the other way.
It's getting a little harder to play, a little tougher to play against people.
I think we need to see a response by the teams that are doing that.
