That's just because injuries are never an excuse, but they can be an excuse so far this season.
Christian Yelich has missed some time.
Jackson Shurio has missed some time.
Brandon Woodruff, their ace, if you will, has missed some time now.
They've been really banged up in the early portion of this season.
And I think they're hoping against hope that if they get their two offensive superstars back, they'll start to score some runs and support that starting pitching a bit.
And you're right, like 19 and 16 anywhere in the American League is probably pretty good, right?
But it's good enough right now for fourth place and half a game out of fifth in the NL Central.
So they've got some time to make some games up, especially if they get healthy.
Injuries have been a huge part of the early season story for the Brewers.
Like, I think they obviously wanted to get more out of him, but it's not like an insignificant, maybe I should get it, maybe I shouldn't surgery, right?
It's either you're in or you're out under the knife.
Obviously, they wanted things to work out.
But again, like, you and I have talked about this a lot in the past, and the Brewers can't operate like everybody else.
It's very Royals-ish, if you will, right?
Like, it feels like the Moneyball quote, if we try to play like the Yankees in here, we will lose.
