You know, and they did a lot in the offseason, including going out there and getting Chris Bassett and giving him some money.
And obviously Pete Alonzo was maybe the signing of the offseason or close to it, outside of Tucker going to the Dodgers.
What's going on with the American League East, in your opinion?
How much of this has been determined already?
Tampa and the Yankees are going to get there, the Jays will be real close, and the other two are just out of it.
Yeah, why are you so certain, Griff, that the same resolve that was there for the players in 94 is still there today to fight this cap?
Yeah, you know what's coming.
It's kind of amazing these proposals are even happening right now.
We've witnessed it with other leagues, the NHL most notably, where both sides just sit and don't do anything anymore.
and know that there's going to be a lockout, a stoppage, at least I guess they're going back and forth.
But, um, yeah, the association responded to the owner's proposal today and, uh, said, you know, billionaire owners are not seeking to cap their profits or asset values, only player salaries.
This isn't out of generosity or desire to protect the game's wellbeing.
It's a play to control costs, increase profits and maximize franchise values.
So, uh,
um that's i guess the counter right like you're talking the owners say hey use union union union americans hate unions you know what they also hate billionaires so say billionaire billionaire billionaire right like the players are like we'll just we're gonna call you billionaires and we'll we'll play the pr game here because they are in the end yeah so so far so bad i guess right i mean it's not gonna get any uh more polite as we go down the road exactly
Well, in terms of the Jays, it's funny.
Every year we talk about the payroll, payroll this, payroll that, and that has really quieted down naturally because of how much they've spent on this roster the last year.
couple of years and the fact that they they gave the money to vladi i'm curious where you stand on that griff like you and i've had these conversations for 15 years you know it was always are they going to spend when will they spend what so like that it is more quiet on that front than any time i can recall in my life i guess maybe you'd have to go back to the early 90s possibly where there's no debate about what the ownership in toronto i guess is willing to spend on this team
That's right.
Tampa's doing it again.
