Like, I mean, you could, they mightn't say it to you, you know, at the door, but to say, look, I'll drop down and see you or something like that.
Like, and we'd ask them to do that.
Because I remember the last murder I was at Finglas, I was on a Sunday morning and I was up at Ratote Road and Ratote Avenue.
And I seen two fairly notable criminals there.
And they were just looking down the street and they were just...
giving their hand across the throat, sign down to anyone who was there.
In other words, keep quiet, don't open, don't say anything to the guards.
I mean, that was the type of thing that you had in the Finglas area, like, I mean, at that particular time.
You had a lot of major criminals residing in the area.
And people were actually quite terrified of...
Because there had been a lot of murders in the Finglas area.
And they didn't want to be the next one.
People were being intimidated.
Witnesses, any witnesses we ever got in Finglas were intimidated.
Same in Blanchestown.
When I became detective inspector in Blanchester and Finglas in Canberra, we had one really main criminal who was operating in the area.
And that was Marlow Hyland.
And he was involved in literally everything that was happening.
It was a very dangerous situation to have just one man in such a powerful position.
