The difference is that the event horizons can have different topology.

So in 5D, you can get something called black rings, where the event horizon is like a torus.

So it's like if you take a two-sphere, a ball, and then moved it around in a circle, that can be the event horizon of a black ring.

And it turns out in five dimensions, there are certain values of the mass and angular momentum of the black hole

where it could have either the standard spherical event horizon or this ring type of event horizon.
