It's a big responsibility to represent your community, being the only one.
Um, and I put a lot of accountability on myself in everything that I do to be that representation and to have success on the show, not only for myself, but for other little black girls that can see themselves in me looking at you know the TV screen every Tuesday.

And you know, it's interesting that you said, oh, like why did it not happen before me?
And I know a lot of people think it's, you know, it's shocking that I was the first black female pro, you know, at that point.
for twenty eight seasons there was no one else like me.
Um but ballroom dance as a sport and in that community it's actually not
Very diverse.
Um, I actually didn't grow up doing ballroom.
Um, it wasn't really accessible to me in my area where I grew up.
I grew up in Denver, Colorado.
Um, but it just it was very separate.
You kind of either went the classical route of um ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, or you did.
ballroom or you grew up in Utah, which a lot of our pros are from Utah.
And then you and then you have access to both.
Um, so you know, it's part of the reason why I started my nonprofit, share the movement, just to create dance, um, to have it be accessible for everyone, even if you don't know if a certain style is an option.
And then also just spreading awareness that a lot of ballroom dance styles are actually they're rooted in black and brown culture.
So just creating more
information and knowledge and I I'm I hope I'm not the last black female.
