And so around that time, I started to really
I've always loved writing.
I have a whole box of stories.
I used to write like my sister, my older sister was a big TV person.
My parents said I never really watched TV.
Part of that was I always had glasses.
I had eye surgery when I was two.
And I think I just gravitated towards like
can't really don't really want to watch that can't really don't really have great vision started just writing and I just had books and books that I wrote as a young child and once the opportunity presented itself I thought it is another tool to like sharpen my skills for broadcast once that opportunity presented itself as like no I think you like writing better I think you like talking to people and crafting a lead preferably without a typo it became like I think
This is actually a better way to tell stories because people are less afraid when you don't have the lights in their faces, when they can kind of almost forget your reporter and really open up to you.
And so that right there kind of started me on a little bit of a winding road to get to where I am.
But the Lansing State Journal, also still have people that I talked to there, was just integral in introducing me to how to be a newspaper reporter.
It is the only experience I have with newspapers because my first internship was with MLB.com and I kind of never looked back.
But I learned a lot about high school preps, answering the phone, taking scores, working with parents and athletes and kind of how newspapers work.
And that was so much more valuable than anything I would learn in a class.

Okay, so yes, but they didn't actually have an internship program.
