So, uh, we've got, we've got someone who he's got some concerns about hunting and CW, CWD zones, which is, there's not many places that aren't CWD zones these days.
He writes, my family does all of our own butchering and processing.
That's great.
And over the years, we've invested a lot of time, money, and effort into becoming efficient hunters and processors.
Between the cost of a lease, equipment, fuel, processing supplies, and the added risk of CWD, I've started asking myself whether hunting is still the most practical and economical way to fill the freezer.
Financially, it almost seems like it would be cheaper to buy quality meat from a local butcher.
So here's my question.
How would you approach hunting economically if you lived in an area where CWD is endemic?
Meaning it's like high prevalence rates.
If you kill a deer, get it tested, there's a decent chance it's going to come back positive for CWD.
Would you start traveling to hunt in areas with lower CWD prevalence, even if it means spending more on fuel and time?
And at what point
Does traveling become the more economical option, both financially and in terms of confidence that the meat you're bringing home will actually fill the freezer?
