It is affecting all of us.
I want to bring up the dual state framework.
We talked about this a few times on the show, most recently about the crisis trans people now face in the US.
The phrase was coined by legal scholar Ernst Frankel, a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany, and he describes two states, what he calls the normative and the prerogative.
The normative state is basically life as usual.
You pay taxes, you go to court, your rights are protected by the law, but the prerogative state routinely violates the rights of a disfavored minority.
The law no longer applies to them.
I wonder if you see a similar dynamic playing out now in Springfield.
So what do their neighbors, those still living relatively comfortably in the normative state, have to say?
Do they try to help or do they think that Haitians are consuming resources that they don't have a right to?
How does the mainstream press's focus in Springfield differ from what you focus on?
And is there something you wish they'd focus more on?
