The North Louisiana city remains in shock after 31-year-old Shamar Elkins allegedly opened fire at two homes Sunday morning and killed eight children.

Seven of them were his own.

The governor announced the children's funerals would be paid for by Louisiana First Lady Sharon Landry's non-profit organization.

Police said Elkins also shot his wife and girlfriend, both mothers, to his children.

Louisiana State Police are investigating whether Elkins died by suicide or was killed by police.
