The program is used by more than 40 percent of universities across the country, including Rutgers University, the top state school here in New Jersey.

The attack was carried out by hackers known as Shiny Hunters.

It is not immediately clear what the hackers want, but typically they hold the data and access to the program for ransom.

Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Michigan are among the countless colleges across the country hamstrung by the attack.

United Flight 169 took off from Venice, Italy and had an uneventful flight until a few seconds before touching down in New Jersey.

The plane struck a streetlight and also hit the cab of a tractor-trailer, injuring the driver.

None of the 230 passengers and crew members aboard the 767 Boeing jet was hurt.

United said the crew has been suspended pending investigations.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.

A preliminary report is expected within a month.
