The New York Police Department posted on X that more than 100,000 people took to the streets of Manhattan to protest Trump's policies on Saturday.
The NYPD said there were no protest-related arrests.
There was indeed a carnival-esque atmosphere, but beneath the lighthearted air was fear, anxiety, and anger.
The rally was dubbed No Kings in response to what many see as President Trump's executive overreach.
They oppose his strong-arm tactics in rounding up immigrants, his deployment of military troops in U.S.
cities, and his tax cuts for billionaires.
Protesters say the immigrant roundup and the troop deployment smack of authoritarian rule.

More than 450 train engineers walked off the job demanding a larger pay increase. The train engineers earn an average gross salary of $135,000 per year, according to New Jersey Transit, but union officials dispute that figure. Exactly how large of a pay increase the engineers want is unclear, but union leaders say that engineers at other regional rail services get at least $10 more per hour.
Those rail companies, as well as New Jersey Transit Bus Service, are not affected by the strike. The two sides actually shook hands on a deal back in March, but the union membership voted it down overwhelmingly in April. New Jersey Transit officials are urging its customers to work from home if at all possible. For NPR News, I'm Bruce Kahnweiser in New York.
The crowd was smaller than the hands-off protest earlier this month, but they came with the same anger and trepidation. Jennifer Fisher was among those concerned about the country's future.
The crowd waved American flags and placards. Some mocked the president and his advisor, Elon Musk. Some called for Trump to be put in jail and for the South African-born mosque to be deported. For NPR News, I'm Bruce Kahnweiser in New York.
There's really no way to tell what or where that data is now.
In making her announcement late Monday, Governor Hochul indicated that she's considering removing Mayor Eric Adams from office. Earlier in the day, four of the city's eight deputy mayors announced they're resigning from the mayor's administration. It was the latest blow for the embattled mayor who has vowed to fight on.
Last week, at least seven federal prosecutors in New York and Washington resigned rather than ask a judge to dismiss the five-count indictment against Mayor Adams. The New York State Constitution gives the governor the power to remove the mayor from office, but in announcing the meeting, Governor Hochul noted that in the state's 235-year history, no governor had ever taken such action.
