And uh anyway, um nothing came of it.
I mean you wouldn't get away with it these days, you would have to back it up with peak comments from from staff at the clubs.
But about a week later he rang me and said, I've just got to tell you I've got a new three year contract.

And that's th th yeah, that's how it operated in those days.

It was um yeah, all over of Rudy Webster who was the uh um the motivator for for Carlton the previous year when they won the flag and he was running around holding up the cup with with Percy Jones and then he jumped across to Richmond and uh it uh in the the final the next year at Waverley, um Richmond had uh had shaken up Carlton with some fairly vigorous
Tactics and as they were walking off the ground, Percy Jones was was yelling at Rudy Webster, and Tony took exception to this.
And he ran at him and and Tony said uh Tony had a s a pretty short fuse.
In those days, uh Mike Sheen and I, and the late Stephen Phillips, used to play midweek tennis with Tony Jewell, and so we knew what he was like, uh his competitive nature.
And uh he ran at him and uh
Tony said that um uh when he got closer and closer, Percy got bigger and bigger.
So he said uh I launched at him with with with two f two fists and hit him in the chest.
They bounced away, people grabbed them and uh uh and uh anyway everyone just went off then.
And uh there was nothing came of it from the uh from the VFL.
