I didn't think he'd do it, Gerard.
I didn't think he'd break this record that has stood for 27 years.
But he was awesome.
I mean, it was just so thrilling.
And now I was watching it back in Adelaide on television, the Diamond League.
Imagine being there in that stadium with 60,000 people, you know, and the world record coming back to England and hadn't been set in London yet.
you know, for 60 or 70 years.
I think Derek Ibbotson was the last person to set this magical world record in London, remembering that an Englishman was the first one to break the four-minute mile and then, you know, he had co-over it and cram all together.
So, really special stuff.
But this is a Scott.
No Scott had ever broken that mile world record.
So, and to think that it was a Scott that broke a world record a week before the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, where you can represent Scotland as you don't at the Olympic Games.
So, I think it took
what was already going to be a marvellous smile at the Commonwealth Games because a week ago, what we had, we had three world champions from 2019, Tim Cherioyt of Kenya, 2022, Jake Whiteman of Scotland, and 2023, Josh Kerr of Scotland against Cam Myers and Ollie Hoare, the defending champion.
I reckon we've gone from the marvellous smile to the miracle smile like 1954.
There's a bit of banister and landy about all of this, I reckon, when you think of Kerr and Myers.
For me, and I think for the world.
The world will be watching, certainly in an athletic sense.
I mean, this transcends the Commonwealth in so many ways.
Because there is a real chance that Myers might turn him over.
