The Tesla founder said on Twitter that he would stop taking orders of the $500 devices after selling 20,000 of them.

The goal is to raise $10 million for his tunneling business called The Boring Company.

The Boring Company insisted the flamethrowers are safe.

A spokesman calls the flamethrowers, quote, thrilling without being dangerous like a roller coaster.

And Musk had advertised the flamethrower as, quote,

guaranteed to liven up any party.

This drew a huge reaction online.
