Like the theory was, okay, we're going to break through this ice barrier and then it's like warm.

I don't know why they believe that exactly.

Right, and a lot of times the early expeditions went with not enough gear and warm clothes because they thought they were going to end up in these

more temperate places.

And they should have figured it out by noting what the indigenous people were wearing.
