Um anyway, get to Ankara and suddenly there's an issue and he can't fly home in the plane.
So every time the president goes somewhere they actually bring a backup plane as well.
So in this case it's what's called a legacy Air Force One, an old one basically.
So he couldn't fly back on the new one, so he got on the old one, walked up the steps, waved at everyone, um, was on the plane.
And um we were told at the time that there was potentially um a threat to his life from the Iranians.
So the plane was going to go to a base here in the UK and they would change planes and fly back to Washington from there.
Now we found through this reporting today that the President walked up the steps, got on the legacy Air Force One.
And then was basically bundled off it, a catering truck
drove up to one of the other exits, um, you know, where they bring bring like like a commercial flight, they bring in the food trolleys and whatever.
And he was kind of bundled into the catering truck then
Across the tarmac to a military plane
out of the catering truck into this military plane.
Meanwhile the entire White House press pool were still on the legacy Air Force One unaware.

Yeah, because he walked up and waved and you know, he actually uh he was asked about this threat by the reporters there and he sort of said, Oh, you know, we're on a safe plane and uh words to the effect of if I go, we all go, kind of thing.
Which, you know, um is one of the risks.

Yeah, you know, it's a dangerous game.
Um and so the journalists were all on there, as were many White House staffers on this plane that then took off from Ankara and flew to the base here in the UK.
