So, Nicole, as you became trainer in the unit, what were some of the biggest things that you learned when you went from handler role to now trainer role and you had to go get teams ready?
So besides patience, 'cause I know that's a big one we all understand and we have to do, what would you say?
Because again, you're training you've gone through training many different breeds too.
What is a big lesson that you would share with somebody who's got a unit like yours that where you're kind of now in the position of trainer, you're training different types of breeds of dogs, but they're doing the same jobs or all drug dogs or they're, you know, gun dogs or what have you.
Um
What would be something that you would share or something that you just felt like, I've definitely learned that lesson because of what I've gone through?
Or just a just as it this is more of a trainer in general because of your experience now having different breeds, you know, you've trained different breeds.
The job is the same, right?
They're all detecting dogs doing drugs or guns, but going through different breeds, different types of handlers, different sometimes timetables, what's what's the either the advice or something that you would just say, this is definitely something I learned uh by going through it in so many different ways.
Your spaniel compared to your duchy and your um and your pointer?
They're good at carrying the load of that new handler, right?
They're good at carrying and and and I I basically agree with what you're saying.
I think in many cases, um
The Mal Shepherd, Dutch Shepherd derivative thereof um is great for the new handlers because if you got the right one, like you said, you've got good selection testing, you're not
Because the the flip side of that is people just go breed and then they give somebody as cracked out Mally that is, you know, all it wants to do is bite your pants, get in your pocket, do the thing, gets highly distracted by the environment, sees thing moving around.
And all breeds do a version of this.
But when you're new, it's just it's nice to have that balanced temperament type dog who's also just naturally driven.
And can focus in the work where the sporting breeds, labs are really kind of good.
The labs kind of can land in this in that center well as as good as well as the Malies and and Dutchies.
Again, it's a selection thing.
