And actually, I just admire anybody who dares to try and make work.
When I first started painting again, I thought anyone who even attempts to make anything is already brilliant.
regardless of what you think so I find it very hard I can go and look at a painting of my peers and be excited about it or moments of it but I don't like to sort of pin that down because it just has to have space to grow and I just think I will just sort of exist really I just take moments from things I think a lot of the time and more so than ever actually as I've got involved in making my work it's about moments from things
It's about the intention and the attitude and the risk and actually the hard work as well.
Just you can see that even if you don't love someone's work, if they work really hard and you can see that they're absolutely dedicated to what they're doing.
All of that's exciting, you know.
It's a sort of urgency, I think.
I think you can see the urgency in people's work.
And as you say, he's got a brilliant touch and the humour, you know, it's this blend of seriousness and humour and intention and risk, really, and just wildness, actually.
I have photographs that I've taken, bits of paintings I'm looking at, some sculptures.
I have a funny sculpture called Nicorette where I used to smoke and I went for a swim in my pants.
And then stuffed it in the Marlborough packet and sort of made a sculpture that's there for some reason.
And a chouchou, which is a Brazilian vegetable that looked like a fertility goddess.
And I made a cast of that.
