Trust me, I'm a big advocate and big supporter of this.
And even now hearing the Labor Party actually wanting to have policy of bringing it up to 52 weeks, which is one whole year, I think it's amazing and it's definitely progress.
because families deserve way more support.
It's also recognition that caring for a baby matters.
But as I read an article, an after article, celebrating six months of leave, I kept on thinking, well, who's talking about day 131?
Who's talking about that first Monday back at work?
the first daycare drop-off where you cry in the car, the first meeting where someone says, how was your holiday?
Or remind us what you used to do.
The first time your childcare center calls because your baby has a temperature.
the first performance review where you wonder, do people still see value in the work that I do or do I have leadership material?
Because that's the part hardly anyone prepares women returning back in from maternity leave for.
And if you've lived it, I know exactly what you mean.
According to Services Australia, from 1 July this year, eligible families can now access 26 weeks of government-funded paid parental leave.
And this is something worth celebrating.
And it can also be taken by the mother and the father, but not equally.
And at the same time, there are some caveats underneath that.
But here's something I don't think that gets enough attention.
Policies can certainly give you enough time and give you more time
They can't automatically give you more confidence.
They can help you out a little bit financially.
