Big part of coaching is being able to transfer that knowledge, understanding certain things, and then understanding how to speak to people, understanding the differences, because man management is important.
There might be a guy that's really shy.
You can't pull him up in a team setting.
But then there might be another guy who's a little bit of a rebel, and he might actually need a little bit of pulling up and a little bit of a dash to the ego to light a fire on the bum.
So I think in past generations,
A lot of our legends didn't go on to upskill themselves as a coach and then be able to transfer that knowledge day in, day out.
So we create this thing called a mentor where a legend would piggyback in a team and you'd be able to pick his brain.
And I would say benefited from it.
I remember Sri Lanka 18 tour, Saviv was mentor and I'd sit down and have chats with Saviv day in,
bonding we had a few drinks flowed and he told us so much about off the field stuff and everything so that was created I think because you can't call them a coach because they haven't done coaching but you know there's value what I like about
my generation and funny enough me and poverty same age it don't feel so how great he's been but what i like about my generation is paul has already been an assistant coach with england and with somebody else if we're not mistaken bravo's gone deep into coaching ipl mlc cpl sammy obviously he's going on to the west and he's coaching all formats so i think the difference between this current generation of generations before
is that these guys are immersing themselves now in the coaching arena and coaching realm, and they're able to impart that knowledge day in, day out.
But I do still think there is
space for the legends 60 70 because if you were good enough and you understand what it means to be a champion there's a certain level of discipline intensity awareness that goes into being successful especially over a period of time there must be a space for them but then we need to upskill them so they understand the science the science of things sports science is massive now we can be falling behind
present day, but then going further behind by trying to be dragged into what worked 50 years ago, 40 years ago.
So for me, the upskilling part is really important.
And funny enough, I met with Sir Andy in St Vincent just the other day.
and he got a whiff of Shabazz and Shamar Holder two years ago and he talks to Shabazz or Shabazz talks to him he says more often than any current player all the current players combined so there we have someone in Shabazz who didn't play professional cricket or international cricket but has a love for fast bowling and is tapping in to our legends how can we upskill ourselves to
sure that we get that knowledge and of course that he he said same conversation he has so much knowledge that he think will just die with him he wants to transfer that knowledge how can we put him in an environment where that knowledge transfer is it makes sense it's applicable to present day um and you can take the learnings from from his exploits
No, no, I can hear you.
