Beyond being pro-Trump or being anti-Trump.

Um and um that's been sort of too easy and too pat for too long, and it's it's not gonna keep working.

And I think these primaries and these midterms are um a part of that process, a part of that debate.

Um and so I think I think it's it's it's healthy.

It's healthy to see both of these forces working at the same time.

I would never bet against the um the paranoid strain in American politics.

Um I well, I mean, it certainly resonates politically.

I think first and foremost it resonates um

tragically, viscerally, in the lives of people who survived the attacks and people who lost loved ones in in the attacks.

Politically, it's it's almost impossible to imagine our politics without it, right?

If you if we just stay at the level of presidential politics and look at at the presidents who um have have led us since nine eleven, uh President Bush, George W.

Bush, entered office um

uh sort of weakened, questioned, you know, following following the the two thousand election, you know, Florida recount and the like.

Nine eleven, his leadership after nine in the immediate aftermath of of nine eleven um was was was comforting, was popular, it really elevated him.

And Congress and the American people handed him enormous powers as a result to respond.

What he did with those powers then diminished him greatly.

You know, whether we look at at two wars.

Yeah, I mean you or, you know, the the you know

the black sites and, you know, torture euphemized as enhanced interrogations and the like, but really the expansion of the the global war on terror, quote unquote, from Afghanistan into into Iraq.
