Just a week into this tournament and we've already had just as many memorable moments off the pitch as on it.

Last week, a Toronto cannabis stop received a legal notice from FIFA for selling a bong shaped like the World Cup trophy.

On Monday, they destroyed it.

But shop owner Sean Caddy didn't mind.

And then there's Merlin the Duck, the unlikely star of Mexico City, waddling the streets in his national team jersey.

Yesterday, we told you about how Scottish fans are drinking Boston dry, but it's not just the pubs where they're making an impact.

Following Scotland's first World Cup win in 36 years, the Tartan army marched up to Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, to celebrate, playing bagpipes and drums as they went.

And finally, the unsung heroes of the tournament, Japanese fans cleaning up the stadium after their country's tie with the Netherlands last Saturday.

As thousands poured out of the Dallas stadium, several Japan fans stayed behind to pick up the rubbish before they left, a practice they'd become famous for at previous World Cup tournaments.

And apparently, the team is just as respectful.

According to US media, the Japanese players left their locker rooms spotless without even being asked.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards say they've closed the Strait of Hormuz, citing what they call Israeli crimes in Lebanon.

The move undoes one of the main achievements of an interim peace deal signed this week by the US and Iran.

Israel and Hezbollah exchanged fire on Saturday, with Israeli strikes killing at least 10 people in Lebanon.

The strikes came just hours after a truce took effect between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group.

A halt to the fighting in Lebanon is a condition for the US and Iran to start negotiations for a lasting peace deal for the region.

And it's not clear when those talks might get underway.

Iran has spent decades supporting Hezbollah, as well as other proxy groups in the region, including the Houthis in Yemen and various Iraqi militias.
