The tentative ceasefire, though, is faltering as Israel pounds Beirut and Iran maintains its grip on the Strait of Hormuz.

Israel-Lebanon negotiations are expected next week in Washington.

And the war is impacting inflation in the U.S.

It soared to 3.3 percent in March from a year ago, fueled by the largest monthly jump in gas prices in six decades.

Today's report shows consumer prices shot up to the hottest level in two years.

Economists say a higher inflation reading doesn't necessarily mean the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates because the Fed needs to consider both inflation and the state of the labor market.

Authorities in Northern California arrested seven people yesterday for last summer's deadly fireworks explosion in Yolo County.

Five of them, including a former sheriff's lieutenant, faced murder charges.
