And I think the really honest answer is that I probably had some sort of subconscious correlative thing in my head where it's like, well, the prettier I am, the more seriously people will take me, the more they'll like my book. podcast-host

Which is but this is essentially the theory of pretty privilege, that the more beautiful you are, the more you conform to certain standards related to youth, to thinness, and to white Western European standards of aesthetics, the more you're gonna be rewarded. podcast-host

The part two of this definition that has become more commonplace in recent years with the rise of accessible cosmetic procedures, is that if you aren't born with these traits, podcast-host

Or if, like with youth, you start to lose access to these traits when you get older, you can literally buy your way back into the center of that privilege. podcast-host

That it's the same thing as being born with that privilege. podcast-host

So I have never questioned the legitimacy of pretty privilege. podcast-host

I've been like, yeah, we have studies that people like attractive people. podcast-host

But I did start to think about it after I read this essay by Haley Nauman, a substat culture writer that you and I both. podcast-host
