I'm not extreme, but I'm there. Okay, so you're like me.

oh, okay, I'll be happy to catch you up and that will also be good for the class in case anyone else is like, you know, just like a normal average person and like doesn't know every single detail about this. But Taylor Swift bought back her catalog of music. She announced on Friday that she now owns every piece of work she's ever made.

Albums, photos, music videos, vault tracks, just like anything that she had made that got sold to Scooter Braun when he acquired Big Machine Records, right? That was the one. Scott Borchetta, Big Machine? Yeah, I think so. So what happened a few years ago was Taylor Swift was like an artist on a record label doing her thing as artists do. She was with Big Machine when she like first got her start.

So all of the albums that she made were owned by Big Machine, which is how like the music industry works. And then eventually I think she left Big Machine. She went to Universal or something, but her albums were still there. And that's just, again, how things work. But then Scooter Braun like came in and acquired Big Machine, which meant that he got

the rights to all of her music and they have beef they had beef because he was he's like in the justin bieber kanye camp at the time that she was beefing with kanye there's like a notorious face time where so he seemed to be like part of that team

So for that person to then go and buy, have the rights to her music, in addition to everything else that Big Machine owns, but like for her, it's very personal. She was livid. Yeah. Very, very livid. And so much so that she went and re-recorded. She started to re-record all those old albums. Yeah, this I knew. So that her fans could listen to it and... it not profit them.

So she recorded Fearless, Red, 1989, and it became like a huge thing for her. And then she went on the Eris tour where she's like re-singing these songs and everyone got to relive them. And like, not only is she releasing new music, but she's like re-releasing her old music.

So there was just like, it actually wound up being like a really fun, positive thing, like something good that came out of a negative thing. And we were just used to like her doing all these re-recordings to get back all of her songs so that everyone could stream her own music. Reputation was the next album that was supposed to come out.

Everyone at the AMAs last week thought she was about to announce Reputation Taylor's version. And instead, on Friday, she announced that she bought all of her music back. So she put out a really long handwritten note saying how this came to be, that she's so over the moon.

didn't think that this would happen, but like it came about and she was able to buy her music and that actually she was rerecording Reputation. She didn't even get like 25% of the way through it because that album is very much a moment in time. And to like, kind of jump back into that, those feelings, like it wasn't really working and now she doesn't have to, cause she owns the old Reputation.

So she said she'll still release like the vault songs from reputation. She re-recorded her first album debut, which hasn't come out yet. She really liked that. I think that might still come out and which is just like a fun moment for the, for the fans.

And she gets to make like double the money now, but now everyone can go and listen to like the old songs, even though they're the same as the new re-recordings. Like. It's just different, you know? Wait, so how much did she have to pay? I think she paid upwards of $300 million. That's what I had been seeing. I don't know if that's confirmed, but that's roughly what it is.

And those records were getting devalued every day that she put out new music. So it made sense for the person who owned them to sell them. And Scooter no longer owned them. He had sold them to Shamrock something. His company's Ithaca. They sold to Shamrock. It was said that like he still benefited from them for a while. So she didn't want to buy them.

She didn't ever want to like buy them and like put money in his pocket. But in some way he must have divested and she was able to buy them. It did not benefit him at all. And now the value will go up. So it's really she's the only person that could buy them and them not continue to decrease in value. It's just so interesting.

Everyone can listen to all the different versions. Like so many of like a super fans are like, Oh, thank God. Because 1989 was not as good. And I actually, I never like really thought about it, but I totally agree. Like, and also so many of the songs were just like a moment in time, like I'm fearless when she's like singing them, she's 19 years old.

And now you sing them again, you rerecord them as 33. And like, but they're just, they're kind of,

immature in a sweet they're like naive and it just doesn't make sense to be like not the same emotion it's not the same emotion i'm just like wide-eyed innocent so we are the swifty nation is yeah what a power move i would say we even though i am a swifty you guys don't think i'm one but i'm a fan of taylor swift so i'm a swifty but you did leave the concert early big enough for you and i did leave the concert early and because you were pregnant because claudia was pregnant oh because

Like I said, we left the concert early. Well, I mostly leave concerts early. I even left Rascal Flats early. I traveled three hours across the state of Florida. I stayed in a hotel to see Rascal Flats. And I even left that concert early because I leave concerts early to beat traffic. Yeah, that makes sense. It makes perfect sense.

So that's like, I was happy to say, yeah, we left Taylor Swift early because like I like to leave early. We really left early because Claudia was struggling. Yeah. But like no one knew that she was pregnant yet. So like I just took all the, oh my God. No, I remember. I remember. And I hope they feel stupid now, okay? You never know what a person's going through. Yeah, they could be pregnant.

They could be pregnant and struggling.
